Chase your dreams...
These are my 3 children. They are vibrant, ambitious, caring, loving, creative little humans. It's funny though, becoming a mom has been a big adventure for me. As most parents soon realize, I had no idea what I was doing! I had my first born when I was only 20 years old. I remember taking her to church one Sunday morning when she was just a few weeks old. She had eaten shortly before we got there, so not to disturb others during the service. I was so proud of myself for timing it perfectly, but while I was sitting there, a new realization came over me....
The pastor stood up and said, "Will everyone please join me in welcoming our children to come up and sing for us today." We all stood, I holding my new born gently in my arms, swaying back and forth, so naturally as if I had been doing it my entire life. Then a dozen or so little children of all ages came up to the front, big smiles on their faces, searching out their parents in the pews, stopping to wave when they found them, as the teacher persuaded them to focus again on the task at hand. THAT moment. In THAT very moment I became flushed as a new reality sank in for me.
I used to be the one going up in front of people to perform. I belonged to a choir group in high school, a community theater group in the town I lived in and all my life I was the child that got up in front of everyone to perform. But that was no longer my role in life.
I eagerly sat down and stared at the baby in my arms and realized, soon she would be up there performing with all the other kids in church. It was in that moment, my new role as Mom meant I had to step down from the spotlight in order to let her shine.
And shine has she! My oldest daughter has reminded me to pursue my dreams. You only live life once and you might as well give it all you have. She doesn't hold back. I love that about my daughter and I learn so much from my kids every single day. Kids don't look at an obstacle and think about all the things that could go wrong... They see something they want and they go after it with everything they have! (Have you ever tried to negotiate a cookie with a child?? You will see how determined one little human can be if you argue why they need to wait until after dinner)
Continue chasing your dreams. Don't ever give up!
